The Middle East is a region where automobile is king and fuel is low-cost, frequently leaving little incentive to discover more environmentally-friendly methods of moving around.
But this year, as protests throughout the Middle East have up the cost of oil, the issue of finding alternative sources of fuel has actually come into sharp focus.
In an area that has one of the highest carbon footprints in the world, one company is making the most of the growing pressure to find alternatives to oil. It’s set up the Middle East’s very first scheme to recycle cooking oil into biodiesel. It’s proving rewarding too, already their client-list contains McDonald’s.
